What do I say? Well, I read this poem when I was in Collegue. Rather than say I like it alot, I would say that I can feel the emotions that Kenyon had when the poem was written. Especially liked the line “Suddenly I understand that I am happy”, because when I read this line, a light instantly lit up inside me, and my day brightens up.

Critics said that this poem is about the emotions after love-making. However, I would rather say that this poem is about falling in love, or rather the realization that one fell in love. It depicts how one can suddenly see the details of everyday events, “chest of someone sleeping”, “wind moves the leaves of the box of elder”, etc.

I especially like this paragraph by a critic of the poem:

“Everyone will fall in love at some point. Everyday day a lover watches their partner in a kind of awl inspiring way, and everyday someone realizes that they are in love.

It does not necessary have to be a relationship between people, but rather it depicts (for me) the universal love. Just like how one can see the line of how a softball travels, how behind the nagging of a mum is love. Corny as it sounds, I think everyone realise how details are just made known to you when you bother to listen, bother to care.
